Feldenkrais Meets Ashtanga Yoga
Two complementary workshops with Ariel Uziga and Florentina Hausknotz in cooperation with ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival

Feldenkrais Meets Ashtanga Yoga
Conversations on Individuality and Form
This retreat brings together two approaches that both encourage a deep sense of well-being: Feldenkrais gently refines how we perceive and organize our movements, allowing us to explore new pathways of ease and possibility. Florentina’s “ Hybrid Ashtanga”, on the other hand, offers a structured sequence of postures that adapts to each person’s body and needs.
Together, these workshops create a fine conversation between the form of a posture and the individual who inhabits it. Instead of imposing a single standard, we discover how attentive movement, self-inquiry, and shared practice lead to deeper physical freedom, a more nuanced understanding of ourselves and compassion for our surroundings – an experience of ease.
Choose both workshops for maximum experience, or take either Feldenkrais Method or Hybrid Ashtanga to enjoy more unstructured daily time. Each workshop consists of approximately 100 minutes of activity daily. The art of silence are shared moments for everyone and thus included with the registration to any of the two workshops.
Feldenkrais Method
Finding options to create and maintain well-being
An experience of ease workshop with Ariel Uziga
This Feldenkrais Method workshop invites you to connect to a process of individual and group learning through “Awareness through movement”. As participant you receive guidance in order to find smooth and rewarding movements which satisfy your imagination, and which open and expand your discoveries, while respecting your limits and rhythm.
We enter in a dialogue from this organic and simple learning, with one's own bodily experience and thus creating a space of practice in this retreat. This exploration opens towards observing and deciphering the keys of movement habits in order to restore movement function, allowing for enhanced perception. By listening to one's own sensations, by slowing down and taking time to know oneself, we thus foster one's own wellbeing.
This workshop deploys different facets of your being and all your potential, generating a space for a proposal for personal growth and in dialogue with what surrounds you.
This workshop is for people of any background and age who want to improve their quality of life. Benefits of the Feldenkrais method include to:
* regain balance and vitality,
* change habits,
* renew yourself,
* move with ease and elegance
* function in an organic way,
* expand the panel of movements and sensations
* develop resources and creativity,
* clarify the self-image,
* generate processes of change,
* improve action and expression,
* regain confidence in their own possibilities,
* make intention become action,
* increase health and quality of life
Duration: Approximately 100 minutes daily
Hybrid Ashtanga
Looking for the strange, the individual body
An experience of ease workshop with Florentina Hausknotz
We train the capacity to adapt. Yoga is never the one or the traditional, but always a mixture of techniques, which are designed to stay healthy. In other words: A body capable of meeting the challenges of life, is the very ground for everything else, call it philosophy or spirituality, or…
Of course, this workshop aims to create and sustain well-being. In Ashtanga Yoga we use a series of postures, and we learn them by heart, so we can practice them in our individual rhythm. The teacher meets everyone in her/his individual needs; learning takes place through dialogue between students and teachers.
We start with an introduction on breathing and subtle anatomy; followed by a joint practice on a group of asanas (postures). Doing these asanas by heart, everybody will learn to remember and work in her/his own time and capacity. Finally, I will support you to move into your postures in an easy and healthy way - meaning we will adapt every asana to fit your situation in life. We end together as a group with relaxation.
The workshop welcomes people new to Ashtanga. Participants will learn a series of asanas which they can practice at home. For long term practitioners, there will be opportunities to deepen the practice; you will have the possibility to work on postures you need me to help you with.
In this kind of asana practice everybody takes care for others practicing next to her/him. While we are not responsible for our neighbor’s experience on the yoga mat - yoga is a moment to ourselves -, it is even more so a sharing of attention, breathing and being together with others and the world around us. Yoga means sharing the good you have to give.
Duration: Approximately 100 minutes daily
SHARED MOMENTS
The Art of Silence
Between 6:30 and 8:00 in the morning we will find moments of peace. We will guide you through some techniques of calming the mind. Slow walking will be part of our practice. If possible, we will sit outside to greet the sun coming up.
On two occasions, the shared moments will take us on a hike and on a visit into a medieval town in the vicinity.
Duration: Approximately 100 minutes daily
Workshops can also be booked individually

Impressions from Ariel's Public Moves class @ ImPulsTanz

Born in the Austrian countryside, dance, yoga and philosophy meant freedom to me. Urban Space became my interest in writing, the book “Stadt denken. Über die Praxis der Freiheit im urbanen Zeitalter” transcript 2011, documents this research. This project marked a turning point in my life: what became visible was the space, where thinking has to end and practice takes over. The city is a place like this, it cannot be thought, it has to be lived. Yoga is a way to do philosophy knowing that we are body-mind-connections, everybody very different from each other, but all of us caught in patterns.
Yoga became a way for me to unlearn, what I think I am to move on, to start a journey with an unknown direction. Travelling to India and the USA to study Yoga, and the everyday work in Ashtanga Yoga always felt most important to me. Over the years Ashtanga became my main interest to free people from guidance.
My wish is to open up spaces where a little help may start a process of creativity in moving the body. Ashtanga Yoga is quite strict, has some rules; I see myself as a teacher, who helps to deal with rules, how to bend them, and to know when to break them. I now teach in my small yoga studio back in the Austrian countryside again, trying to create the sphere of freedom there I was dreaming of when I left.
